Abstract: Denne afhandling tilbyder et diagram over eksistensformen for en gruppe højt profilerede management konsulenter. Den tilbyder et diagram over et moderne selvforhold. Den tilbyder en fortegnelse over, hvordan en gruppe højt profilerede management konsulenter griber de kriterier, de bliver udsat for i sit deres liv og den eksistensmåde, der hermed muliggøres. Med dette ønsker jeg at bidrage til de eksisterende work-life balance teorier. Min vej ind i teorierne er nemlig, at logikken i mit empiriske materiale forekommer så forskelligt fra de traditionelle work-life balance teorier, at disse ikke lader sig forene. Jeg foretager derfor en analyse af den eksisterende litteratur, og rejser i den forbindelse en grundlæggende kritik af work-life balance teorierne, for at operere med falske problemstillinger på en måde, så svaret allerede indgår i de spørgsmål, der stilles... Abstract: Why do we focus on the internal arrangements of the contractual process from a leadership perspective? Through empirical research where we have asked questions about the internal organizational arrangements, what kind of knowledge the organization need, and how institutional arrangements affect the contract process, we have tried to answer the main research question. We have also carried with us a question of if the organization's attachment to the public or private sector affects the arrangements. I have conducted a comparative case study where data has been generated from two public sector organizations, The National Road Administration, Helsebygg Midt-Norge, one private sector organization, Siemens, and one hybrid organization, NTE. Data was primarily generated from the governance system of the different organizations, and informant interviews. The analysis was carried out by two steps; first an empirical analysis, then a theoretical analysis, based on contractual theory, of the empirical findings. The empirical analysis shows that the organizations share the same thoughts on how to organize the contractual work; the division between the line and the project organization, the distribution of decision-making authority, and the institutionalization of a specific governance system. The organizational processes are formalized, and the governance system gives the clear recommendation on desired actions. The empirical data gives a clear understanding that the contract process is dominated by one profession — the engineers. Regarding the question on knowledge, I found the organizations to be interested foremost on problem solving competencies (engineering competencies). Other competencies, for example economic or legal competencies, where viewed as support competencies. We also found that personal skills in handling the complex and difficult processes and attitude toward ethics seemed to be of importance. On the question on how institutional elements in the organizational environment affected the contract process, we found that the overall interest of the organizations was stability and predictability. We also found that the market mechanisms cause the organizations some worry. In the end, the empirical findings did not give us any strong reasons to differentiate between public sector organizations and private sector organizations in how to deal with contractual work processes. The theoretical analysis has been carried out within classical and relational contract theory. The analysis shows that the empirical findings, to a great extend, can be explained through classical contract theory. It also gives us some ideas on what areas of the theory, especially relational contract theory that should be improved. Regarding the main research question, the conclusions indicate a need to establish a comprehensive approach to the contract process, to ensure a good balance between different partial processes. There also seem to be necessary to work on improvements on contract theory to increase the applicability of the theory, especially the relational contract theory. When does the reflexive pronoun se appear in the intransitive version of the alternation? What characterizes the situations referred to by the alternation and what makes them so apt to appear in the causative alternation not only in Spanish but also in typologically related and unrelated languages, i.e. a more general characterization/description of the situations referred to by the verbs in the alternation. Abstract: A new local government structure is announced for Greenland from 2009. If the reform is carried through, Nanortalik the most southerly town will come together with Qaqortoq, then the new centre, and Narsaq. A suggestion by the mayor of Nanortalik about the number of civil servants that should move to the centre is the basis for calculating the potential loss of gross income (wages and profits) in the first years of the reform. With the civil servants follow some adults and children. On top of the direct loss of income come derived losses determined by a multiplier process. The size of the multiplier is estimated to be around 1,25. This is based on assumptions about income levels, expenditure patterns, and local income parts of sales. Full implementation of the reform could mean a loss of 5 plus percent of gross income. If other probable losses (e.g. fewer elected members of the local authority) are added in, the loss could rise to more than 7 percent. Tax rates are assumed not to be lowered by the departure of civil servants to the centre. To the contrary an increase in the tax rate for Nanortalik is envisaged as this small town in these years enjoys an advantage from taxing local people and foreign skilled workers operating a nearby gold mine. It is stressed that the paper doesn’t evaluate the proposal for a reform, neither for the South of Greenland nor for Greenland as a whole. Abstract: Paris havde i 30’erne et sprudlende kulturelt miljø, hvor lokale intellektuelle og kunstnere blandedes med flygtninge fra kommunisme, nazisme og fascisme, hvor marxister, anarkister, dadaister, surrealister og alle mulige andre politiske og videnskabelige grupperinger inspirerede hinanden på kryds og tværs. I et surrealistisk hjørne af denne vrimmel mødtes gruppen Contre-Attaque , altså Mod-angreb i 1935 og underskrev et manifest rettet mod den nyetablerede franske folkefrontsregering. Manifestet kræver en ny politik, nemlig at regeringens passive anti-fascisme vendes til en aktiv anti-fascisme. Blandt underskriverne var digteren Léo Malet, og manifestet var sandsynligvis forfattet af Georges Bataille. Det er denne spinkle forbindelse, som jeg har benyttet som anledning til at præsentere det krimi-univers, som Malet udviklede i 40’erne og 50’erne. Bataille kender jeg nemlig særdeles godt, og hvis man inddrager Batailles filosofi fra samme periode i analysen af Malets tekst, så tyder meget på, at deres bekendtskab og fælles rødder i det nævnte miljø har haft stor betydning for de temaer, de senere kredser om litterært og filosofisk. Første afsnit handler om den særlige genre, krimi’en, hvor Malet imidlertid typisk overses. Andet afsnit introducerer Malet, og tredje præsenterer to fælles temaer med udgangspunkt i Malets og Batailles henvisninger til Sade og Baudelaire, nemlig død og erotik. Det vises, hvordan hvordan de for Bataille er tæt forbundne, og i Malets fremstilling af det erotiske forhold mellem mand og kvinde skabes en kvindefigur, der adskiller sig markant fra dem, man typisk møder i krimi-genren. Fjerde afsnit ser på den politiske ideologi, der viderebringes med de kulturelle normer, der gøres gældende i Malets krimi’er, nemlig småborgerskabets anarkisme, der stadig spiller en stor rolle for den post-moderne venstrefløjs forestillinger om det ideale samfund. Abstract: This dissertation is about state performance auditing in Denmark – a practice that the National Audit Office of Denmark (NAOD) is mandated to undertake. My analysis of performance auditing takes as a starting point the fact that performance auditing is a kind of writing and that one immediate and obvious output of performance auditing consists of written reports. In a sense it could be argued that performance auditing is a particular kind of writing. However, not much research has paid attention to the question of how the writing of audit report is performed in concrete settings. What characterizes such processes? Does it follow certain rules? How are different actors involved? What kinds of effects follow from the writing and how, and to what extent, are the possible effects constrained by the particular kind of writing? The dividing line between the auditors as the writers, the auditee as the object of writing and the public as readers of the message conveyed by the report also seems to be questionable. In the dissertation, I show that in processes where it is difficult to determine in what sense a report is an output or an input and where these processes begin and end, the roles between writing and reading, active and passive may get blurred too. Abstract: The focus of this thesis is ”Quality Leadership in Danish Hospitals” and the conditions for good quality development on the operational level. Within this framework it is the objective of the thesis in three selected hospitals, geographically spread over the country, to investigate the view of the concept “quality” among department leaders from five referral centers and its impact on the department's quality work. The overall quality concept in the three hospitals is based on two different leadership technologies: Total Quality Management and Accreditation. Two of the hospitals have applied the TQM model as leadership technology but use the method in different ways. The third hospital applies Accreditation. Abstract: This document contains a description of the main purposes and characteristics of Lsd. It discusses the problems related to the use of simulations in social sciences and describes how Lsd tackles these problems. In general, the use of simulations is constrained by two kinds of problems: difficulties in building the programs and difficulties to make use of other people’s programs. Lsd proposes a system to facilitate both aspects of the use of simulation models. This document is mainly concerned with the use of simulations by unskilled computer users, and describes in detail how Lsd can be successfully used to explore and use a model without requiring any programming knowledge. Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to analyze the labor market for artists and in the creative industries more broadly: How important is a formal education for jobs in the creative industries? How are the careers of people with a creative education? Do they work in the creative industries or outside the creative industries? How is the profile of the jobs within the creative industries? Alper and Wassall (2006) present an overview of the economic, mainly empirical research concerning the labor market of artists. Different types of studies can be distinguished: theoretical models of artistic career processes, qualitative interviews and data, retrospective surveys and panel data based on surveys (either true panel studies or quasi panel studies). Some of the most extended studies on artists’ earnings are done by Alper and Wassall on American census data, where data comes from peoples selfreporting in surveys, and peoples’ occupation is based on time spent at work during a single reference week. This do obvious have some drawbacks. Register data from Statistics Denmark representing true panel data, makes it possible to overcome some of these problems and gain new knowledge on the career patterns of artists, their income, the importance of education, multiple jobholding etc. The register data used in this paper includes a lot of variables on socio-economy, income, employment etc. for the Danish population in the period 1994-2003. Abstract: We measure the quantitative importance of labor mobility as a vehicle for the transmission of knowledge and skills across firms. For this purpose we create a unique data set that matches all applications of Danish firms at the European Patent Office to linked employer-employee register data for the years 1999-2002. The Danish workforce is split into "R&D workers", who hold a bachelor's or a master's degree in a technical field, and "non-R&D workers". We find that mobile R&D workers ("R&D joiners"') contribute more to patenting activity than immobile R&D workers. Furthermore, R&D workers who have previously been employed by a patenting firm ("patent exposed workers") have a larger effect on patenting activity than R&D workers without this experience. Patent exposed R&D joiners constitute the most productive group of workers: for firms that patented prior to 1999, one additional worker of this type relates to an increase in the number of patent applications of the new employer by 0.0646. This corresponds to a 14 percent increase in the mean number of yearly patent applications. We also find that mobility of R&D workers increases the joint patenting activity of the donor and recipient firms, confirming the importance of labor mobility for innovation in the economy. Abstract: A critical challenge facing developing country producers is to meet international labour standards and codes of conduct in order to engage in global production networks. Evidence of gains for workers from compliance with such standards and codes remains limited and patchy. This paper focuses on the global football industry, a sector dominated by leading global brands who manage dispersed global production networks. It assesses the work conditions for football stitchers engaged in different forms of work organisation, factories, stitching centres, and home-based settings, in Pakistan, India, and China. It draws on detailed qualitative primary field research with football stitching workers and producers in these three countries. The paper explains how, and why, work conditions of football stitchers differ across these locations through an analytical framework that interweaves both global and local production contexts that influence work condition. In doing so, it argues that current debates on the role of labour in global production networks have to go beyond a narrow focus on labour standards and CSR compliance and engage with economic, technological and social upgrading as factors that could generate sustained improvements in real wages and workers conditions. Abstract: We consider the economic implications of a compressed wage structure which is exogenously determined by institutions. An important feature of our analysis is that human capital is endogenous and can be achieved either as formal education or as informal training within firms after entering the labour market. While institutional wage compression decreases the incentives of individuals to become educated, it increases the incentives of firms to invest in training. As a result, the net effects of wage compression on the aggregate human capital level and GDP are ambiguous. Moreover, with wage compression, a skillbiased technological change may cause wage inequality to decrease. Abstract: We examine the impact of discrimination on labour market performance when workers are subject to a risk of losing skills during the experience of unemployment. Within a search and matching model, we show that all natives and immigrants are affected by discrimination. Discrimination in one sector has positive spillovers, inducing employment increases in the other sector. Discrimination may induce immigrants to train more or less than natives, depending on the sector where it is present. Abstract: This paper studies labour market policy in a society where differently gifted individuals can invest in training to further increase their labour market productivity and where the government seeks both effiency and equity. Frictions in the matching process create unemployment and differently skilled workers face different unemployment risks. We show that in such an environment, training programmes that are targeted to the unemployed complement passive transfers (UI benefits), unlike a general training subsidy. Combining passive subsidies with a training subsidy conditioned on the individual being unemployed (for a while) - the typical Active Labour Market Programme - implies a favorable trade-off between equity and efficiency which encourages high spending on training. Abstract: Abstract. In Denmark, taxation of residential property returns varies considerably with the type of ownership and type of tenure in terms of the way income is calculated, the types of taxes applied and tax rates, which range from 0 % to above 60 %. Together with other housing subsidies this disparity in taxation contributes to the pronounced lack of tenure neutrality in the Danish housing market. The paper illustrates how tax rules alone create distortions and imbalances in the housing and residential property markets and discusses as well the magnitude of the imbalances. The method used is the application of a set of return and user cost equations. The tax aspects of the long-standing rather unequal treatment of private rental dwellings, social rental dwellings, owner-occupied dwellings and private co-operative dwellings, which have drawn decisive tracks in the markets, are discussed. The lowering of the tax rate for the return of institutional pension savings to 15 % which came into effect in 2001 has created a substantial advantage for pension funds compared with private investors with regard to investments in rental residential properties. The owner-occupiers’ user costs and subsidization are shown to depend on their capital structure and to a large extent they depend on whether the owners’ most obvious savings alternatives are either personal investments with heavily taxed returns or institutional pension savings with lightly taxed returns. Also private co-operative associations are tax exempted, and this fact in combination with the prospects of improved legal conditions for raising loans to finance the individual apartments will almost certainly lead to this form of tenure – as "tax free ownership" – capturing part of the market for owner occupation.
