Title: Constitutional orders in multinational firms
An institutionalist perspective on international management
Author: Hull Kristensen, Peer; Morgan, Glenn
Abstract: Multinationals are faced with the problem of how to coordinate different actors and stop ‘fiefdoms’ emerging that inhibits the achievement of transnational cooperation? We identify this as a problem of ‘constitutional ordering’ in the firm. Drawing on Varieties of Capitalism approaches, we explore how multinationals from different contexts seek to create constitutional orders. We argue that the models which exist appear to be destructive of coordination. We explore the implications for MNCs.
